KINETYPE is a minimalist ASCII roguelite where your keyboard is the interface for survival. Forget the mouse and the controller. To navigate the procedurally generated terminal, you type your commands and hit enter.
Your objective is simple: enter the run, collect what you can, and reach the extraction point. Success earns you Bytes, a currency used for permanent player upgrades and items in the shop. If you fail, your current inventory and win streak are wiped, but your permanent progression remains for the next run.
Survival depends on scavenged code fragments. To claim an ability, move over it and type its name to execute the command:
ZAP: Deletes the closest enemy instantly.
BOMB: Sets an explosive with a short fuse.
MINE: Deploys a proximity trap for trailing enemies.
SILENCE: Pauses all enemy movement for 20 steps.
PING: Visualizes a direct path to the exit.
DASH: Teleports the player by pressing the TAB key.
AND MORE: Discover a wide range of additional commands as you dive deeper into the sectors.
The grid is populated by hostile entities designed to terminate your session. Every enemy reacts to your movements, creating a tactical, turn-based puzzle:
CHASER: A persistent hunter that tracks your coordinates across the grid.
VIRUS: Infects your trail of characters, draining the Bytes you’ve collected for extraction.
BLINDER: Corrupts your visual feed, forcing you to type and execute commands by feel for a temporary duration.
FUSE: Similar to a Chaser, but triggers a catastrophic explosion when it nears your trail.
By default, Kinetype is a strategic experience where the world only moves when you type. This allows you to plan your route and manage your abilities carefully. For those who want to test their typing speed, Hardcore Mode removes the safety net, forcing enemies to move on a timer if you aren't fast enough with your keystrokes.
Kinetype is built to be flexible. You can play with a clean monochrome look, a classic green "Matrix" terminal, or mod in your own custom colour themes.
Whether you are aiming for a record-breaking win streak or just grinding Bytes for your next upgrade, the terminal is yours to command.
