About the Story

In this world, forsaken by God, every newborn child is swathed in darkness, a veil drawn across its face, stripped of that which cannot be seen - the lack of which has rendered it “Empty”: the soul.

Though the souls of men have become a resource beyond replenishment, yet have men learned to forge them in the crucible of the laboratory. But the price of this discovery - none are eager to name it. Nor do they fathom what calamities such a breach must surely summon. 

The Four

At the heart of the story stand four characters, each carrying their own burdens and histories:

• Ilayaa Cosett — The protagonist. A “defective product,” desperately trying to diagnose the flaw that turns out to be an inseparable part of the fragile mechanism she calls herself.

• Daemon Veres — Possessor of a soul that is real, yet steeped in darkness. Equally versed in science and scripture, he despises the faithful of both.

• Cassian Tess — The ideal product. A dubious heir, yet an exceptionally good man.

• Dakota Schwartz — The big sister. A small cog in a vast machine. A desired victim and an impenetrable shield.

Every Choice Has Consequences

Your decisions shape not only Ilaya’s fate, but the destiny of the fortress-city of “Echo.”

• Will you help Ilaya preserve her fragile peace of mind — or, with your own hands, send her into the Void?

• Which of the four will become your ally, your enemy, or something more? (Romantic relationships are possible.)
