Over a five-year career, illustrator Shen Mo has built a certain level of fame, yet the numbing haze of drugs and alcohol keeps him teetering on the edge of a total breakdown. His girlfriend and producer, Lin Wei, suddenly turns uncharacteristically cold, forcing him to join a new project titled Greyed-out. During a studio meeting, she aggressively goads their lead programmer, Gu Cheng, into walking out. When Shen Mo refuses to illustrate the macabre scenes, Lin Wei lashes out with vicious words. Crushed beneath the immense pressure, Shen Mo's vision bleeds into grey before he collapses on the spot.
That night, Shen Mo awakens with his head resting on the lap of a woman dressed in white. She claims to be Lin Wei, yet her demeanor is a stark contrast to her earlier cruelty—she is gentle, a bit clumsy, and even bashful. She lets herself in with his keys, slips under his covers, and suggests to go to the seaside to relax. Suddenly, everything feels exactly as it did during the honeymoon phase of their romance.
However, Shen Mo's "Hyper-Perception" senses that something is deeply off. How did she get the keys to the house? Why can't she answer a single question about "her"? And why, upon holding her hand, does reality abruptly invert its colors to the sound of a jarring, dissonant chord? All at once, everything shifts into a cruel dialectic, and the truth he perceives shatters into an inescapable puzzle.
