In 2004, three friends built a camera that could see and hear the dead. To test it, they traveled to the Mizukage Region, where a 7-year-old boy had vanished in his own home. Their findings changed the world forever.
Yōkai Crossing is a Narrative Driven First Person Horror Game with physic based mechanics, inspired by 2000's J-Horror Movies.
You play as Ryo, a 19 year old student who stumbles upon the Yōkai Hunters Club, a newly formed group recruiting their first members. The leader, Takumi, has a theory of how they can modify a phone camera to see and hear the dead who have not left our world. Led by their own motivations, Ryo and Shizune, a sound design student, will join the club to help Takumi build the camera.
Yōkai Crossing is a physics-based horror game where you can interact with almost every object of the house, while you’re hunted by the Yōkai who lives within.
Key items
Some items can be used to interact with the environment by helping you open doors or revealing secrets. Carry them across the house where you think they may fulfill their purpose.
No inventory
You can only carry one item at a time, while holding them you won’t be able to turn on/off your flashlight or open/close doors. Plan your movements accordingly.
The Yōkai
While you try to solve the mystery of the house, you will need to hide from the Yōkai haunting its halls. Every Yōkai has a different behavior and ways to deal with them, becoming more aggressive the more you progress into the game.
No hand holding
Yōkai Crossing will give you all the clues and tools you need to solve every puzzle and mystery of the house and how to deal with its inhabitants, but it won’t contain waypoints, quest logs, or any written instructions to follow. It will be up to you to collect the information and connect the dots to uncover the truth.
Hidden secrets
Even though you can finish the game by completing the main story, there will be secret storylines that will provide more answers and deeper information about the lore of the characters and the world they live in.
Narrative driven
Yōkai Crossing was inspired by early 2000s J-Horror movies; that’s why its story, characters, and gameplay are designed as one. You will experience third-person cutscenes with dialogue choices and first-person perspective during the core gameplay.
