Fluid Weiqi is an electronic variant of the traditional game of Weiqi (Go game). In this variant, stones are no longer solid pieces placed precisely on grid intersections. Instead, they become blurred, flexible spheres of influence that can be placed anywhere on the board.
Although the logic for determining life and death remains the same as in traditional rules—a connected group of stones is dead if completely surrounded with no liberties—the much freer placement rule leads to many surprising differences from what you take for granted in traditional Weiqi. For example: a single enemy stone can now be captured with as few as three of your own stones; stones that would normally form a single connected group can be separated; ladders become much more difficult, and so on. Even if you are an experienced Weiqi player, you can still rediscover the joy of exploring a new game's rules in Fluid Weiqi.
Beyond the classic mode that "just looks like Weiqi", the game plans to support several rule variants, which will be gradually added in future official releases:
Freely adjustable board sizes and shapes;
2–4 players playing on the same board;
Realtime play (no turns), with all parties drawing on the board simultaneously;
The board gradually shrinks, with the last survivor winning;
Alternative topological boards, such as spheres and tori;
And more to come.
Currently, the game is still in early development. The rules are not yet finalized, and online/multiplayer play against AI or other humans is not yet supported. We have released an early test version as a free demo for you to try. You can download the free demo now and add the full version to your wishlist!
