Created by Adam Willis in 1998, Roofball is a competitive sport in which players go head to head by throwing a football at a roof and catching it. Players score points for their performance during the throwing phase and the fielding phase.
The main scoring method is by hitting a “Ping” or an “Around”. During the throwing phase, players score a Ping by hitting the tall gas vent pipe. If the ball travels past this pipe, goes around the back of the pipe, then passes the pipe on the other side, then an Around is scored.
During the fielding phase, players can score one point for a “Catch” if they catch the ball before it hits the ground. Most parks have a smaller pipe on the roof called the “Catch Multiplier”. If the ball hits a Catch Multiplier in the throwing phase, the catch will be worth additional points.
If the ball is thrown over the house or ends up out of bounds, the throw is an “Over” and the player will lose points on their current throw.
Each match is played by at most 3 players and composed of 10 innings with one throw per inning. The player with the highest score after the end of the 10 innings is the winner of the match.
Much like variances between golf courses, each arena may have slightly modified rules and scoring.
