Game Title: Cold Spring – Liminal Space
Tagline:
A procedurally generated 2D psychological horror survival game.
Short Description:
You are an ordinary urban woman. One night, deep in your apartment building, you fall into an endless, looping liminal space. No weapons. No allies. Only ever-rearranging corridors, lurking entities, and the ice axe in your hand.
Procedurally Generated Maps
Every run restructures the apartment floor plan. No two explorations are the same.
Environmental Alteration – Carve Your Own Path
Use your ice axe to break through walls, turning dead ends into new passages. Real‑time terrain destruction updates both the game world and your minimap.
Audio‑Driven Threat Detection
Rely on footstep cues (distance attenuation) to locate invisible entities in the dark. Decide whether to hide or flee based on what you hear.
Sanity Management
Sanity constantly depletes due to terrifying events and darkness. Restore it slowly with light sources such as a flashlight. If sanity hits zero, you begin to deteriorate – your health will steadily drop until death.
Health Recovery – Homecoming Is the Only Anchor
No health pickups exist inside the liminal space. The only way to heal is to escape back to your real‑world apartment. Returning home offers slow, passive health regeneration.
Branching Narrative & Replayability
Key obstacles offer multiple solutions (e.g., opening a metal door in different ways). Your choices affect the distribution of anomalies and exploration routes, encouraging multiple playthroughs.
A mysterious “404 Forum” appears on your apartment computer. Inside, other people trapped in the same loop leave fragmented posts and hidden clues. Read their accounts, observe environmental details, and piece together the truth behind the liminal space.
Source of Horror
Psychological terror rooted in the abnormality of everyday objects. No gore, no jump scares.
Length
Full game includes 6–8 main chapters. Main story: 3–5 hours. Complete exploration and replays: 8+ hours. Each new run generates a different spatial layout and anomaly distribution.
Player Mode
Single‑player only. No multiplayer planned.
An ordinary urban routine – shattered the moment you push open your own apartment door.
You are just a worn‑out city worker. Walking out of your apartment corridor late at night, you unexpectedly fall into an infinite, looping liminal space. The familiar residential hallway becomes a bizarre, ever‑rearranging maze. Every time you go up or down a floor, the spatial layout changes. Paths you just walked become alien and sinister moments later.
In this space soaked with an eerie substance, nameless entities wander. Silent phantoms drift.
The mysterious 404 Forum that appears on your apartment computer holds broken records and obscure clues left by others trapped like you – along with the truth of what it means to sink and be lost.
Are you trapped in the corridor… or has the liminal space already swallowed you forever?
