In the corner of your screen sits a tiny Q-version cultivator.
They don’t farm mobs or clear dungeons. They watch whatever app is in the foreground:
Work & study apps → qi sealed, black chains of KPIs
Games, chat, video & fun → normal cultivation, green light flowing
Unlisted / gray apps → slow gains, fate unclear
Retreat mode (game minimized) → faster qi, do not disturb
Long AFK → drifting in the void, gains fade until you return
The moment you leave Word for something leisure—the pet opens their eyes, chains snap, and for a few seconds qi surges: “The dust of the world is cut; qi floods for three breaths.”
That’s the core loop of Mo Yu Wu Dao (Slack to Cultivate): every app switch is a moment of practice.
Your cultivation isn’t built on meditation cushions—it’s built on what’s on your screen.
Your elixir isn’t rare herbs—it’s every paid minute of the day.
In a fading age, heaven has collapsed and qi runs dry. Only in moments when you slip free of mundane duty can you steal a thread of fate. You are a modern cultivator living inside a screen. Between work and leisure you gather qi, nurture five spirit roots, and climb from Qi Refinement to Ascension. KPIs are inner demons. Deadlines are heavenly tribulations. Ascension—well, that might be retirement.
The in-game Heart Mirror reads your foreground app’s exe name once per second to decide cultivation state.
We do not read window titles, web page content, documents, memory, or network data.
The Process Ledger and all saves stay on your machine only—nothing is uploaded.
On first launch you see a full explanation. Prefer not to auto-detect? Switch to pure manual mode and toggle “Enter the World” / “Leave the World” yourself—you can still play everything.
Browsers are the grayest zone: pick a default strategy (work / leisure / gray), or install the optional browser extension for domain-level sorting—GitHub as work, video sites as leisure, your call.
All five roots exist from the start. Spend qi to level them—spent qi still counts toward realm progress, so upgrading never slows breakthrough.
| Root | Role | Effect |
| Metal | Burst | Higher qi surge when switching from work to leisure |
| Wood | Steady | Bonus to all positive-gain states |
| Water | Gray zone | Better gains from unlisted apps & browsers |
| Fire | Serendipity | Chance for “Sudden Insight”—bonus qi & fate |
| Earth | Retreat | Stronger retreat multiplier, more stable when mind wavers |
Metal sword cultivator, wood alchemist, water wanderer, fire acolyte, earth anchor—pick your path.
Breakthroughs grant Fate, spent to gaze at the stars and draw Star Talismans—equippable passives like Payroll Flying Sword, Jade Half-Leisure Calendar, and Star River Enters Fate (22 in the first pool).
Duplicates become Stardust, traded for specific rare talismans. Fate plate slots unlock with realm—up to 7 slots—so you can build your own slack build.
Turn on sigil mode and draw with your cursor:
○ Qi Gathering — short-term qi rate boost
△ Spirit Summon — clickable spirit stones for a qi burst
× Slash Demon — clear one “Unstable Mind” debuff
□ Return to Origin — instant large qi gain
↯ Star Draw — gain Fate
Successful casts wrap the pet in sigil light. Higher realms unlock more sigils.
Dao Forms are your pet’s look and temperament—the same cultivator, different sides of the path:
Office Drifter (default) — badge, floating to-do talismans, Performance Demon Record; peak workplace humor
Slacking Sword Cultivator — carries a “payroll flying sword”; unlock at Metal Root Lv.5
Cave Alchemist — small furnace, warm robes; unlock at Wood or Earth Root Lv.5
Wandering Dust Mage — heart-mirror compass, window fragments; unlock at Water Root Lv.5
Fire Virtue Child — flame hair, “slack talisman” in hand; unlock at Fire Root Lv.5
Each form has 7 state animations: work, leisure, retreat, unstable mind, AFK, event, and idle. Your desktop is their dojo.
When you’re on a leisure app in a clear state of mind, enter Cave Retreat: minimize the game for a qi multiplier.
Switch back to work mid-retreat and your mind shatters—retreat gains wiped, heavy debuff.
Exit cleanly and earn completion rewards at 10, 30, and 60 minutes.
Unstable Mind: flip apps too often in 30 seconds → gains crash
Drifting Void: no input for 5 minutes → near-zero gains
Sitting Tribulation: long leisure streaks → the pet nudges you to stand up and move
We’re not telling you to skip work—we help you notice your own rhythm. Slack when it’s time; step away when it’s time.
Foreground-app cultivation — your software choice drives pet state and qi rate; switches trigger bursts and feedback
Always-on desktop pet — borderless, top-most, draggable, resizable; low-power mode for long sessions
Eight realms + ten stages each — Qi Refinement → Foundation → Golden Core → Nascent Soul → Spirit Transformation → Tribulation → Mahayana → Ascension
Five spirit roots — long-term builds; upgrades don’t cost realm progress
Star Gazing & talisman buildcraft — 22+ passives, fate plate, stardust exchange
Mouse sigil casting — active spells unlocked by realm
Five dao forms — office drifter, slacking sword, cave alchemist, dust mage, fire child
Process Ledger — classify apps and domains to match your work and slack habits
Privacy first — exe names only, local saves, manual mode anytime
Optional browser extension — domain-level sorting when “browser” isn’t enough
