You hire the manager. You set the budget. You negotiate the sponsors, expand the stadium, and decide whether to push for promotion or steady the ship. Matchday plays out live, but your job is influence, not formations. Text the manager. Demand a sub. Tell them to push forward or sit deep. Two interventions per match. Use them wisely.
Every week, the club needs a decision. Every season, the league table tells the story.
Start with a director backstory, ex-player investor, city financier, lifelong fan with a windfall, or media operator. Your choices shape starting cash, club reputation, fan loyalty, and how the press sees you.
Pick a league pyramid and starting division, from the County League at the bottom to the Apex League at the top. Take over a pre-made club with history and character, or build your own; name, colours, badge, motto, the lot.
This is chairman football, not spreadsheet football, but the spreadsheets still bite.
Squad & transfers — buy, sell, and loan through summer and winter windows. Watch release clauses, wage bills, and squad morale.
Manager — hire tacticians with distinct styles, formations, and man-management skills. Keep them happy, or pay the severance.
Academy — invest in youth intake, develop prospects, and promote the next generation.
Stadium & commercial — expand capacity, upgrade facilities, set ticket prices, and land shirt and naming-rights deals.
Identity — kit design, merch, branding, and the kind of club fans actually want to follow.
Promotion spots are scarce. Relegation is real. The pyramid has four tiers and twenty-plus clubs per division. Climb it, or fall.
When your team kicks off, follow the action in a live match dock, commentary, moments, momentum shifts. You don’t pick the lineup. You don’t drag players around a tactics board. You watch, react, and intervene like a director who actually owns the place.
Your personal fortune and the club treasury are separate problems. Invest personal cash when the club is skint. Withdraw dividends when times are good. Use the bank. Manage the mogul life.
Expand into side businesses, at portfolio level, set each venture to grow, steady, or harvest. They won’t demand your full attention, but they will fund your ambitions… or drain them.
Football Boardroom runs in weekly turns, one decision layer at a time, always moving forward. Difficulty scales starting resources. Easy gives you breathing room. Hard makes every transfer feel like a gamble.
No game studio. No hardware R&D. No distractions. Just football, finance, and the long climb from lower-league obscurity to top-flight pressure.
Build the club.
Back the manager.
Survive the board.
Win the argument in the stands.
